Are there weight limits on rides at disney world

This is a delicate topic, but has anyone ever seen a person refused a ride at WDW because of their weight? We witnessed an overweight couple on Buzz Lightyear this weekend who were asked invited actually to sit in seperate cars, and it got me thinking about this. The CM handled the situation quite well without embarrasing anyone, but I'm sure there are rides that they just could not ride. How is this handled? I've never seen it. I have a few wedding guests coming next year that I don't know will make the cut Click to expand I would imagine RNRC restriction and other rides would be if the restraint harness didn't lock down.

DisJosh Well-Known Member. I believe some attractions actually have extensions available for seatbelts. I'm large my self. At 6'1" , lbs I've never had a problem. If anything the bigest problem I've had is room for my knees lol. PhilharMagician Well-Known Member. On our last trip there was a guy that we watched getinto the car and it was a tight squeeze. When the restraint came down over him it was at about a 45 degree angle.

Normally those bars come down to about 90 degrees. I was surprised they let him on the ride. It was even a tight fit for him through the gate. I am 6'3" and lbs and I am cramped sometimes on the rides and this guy had to be well over lbs. Here are some things to consider. Though most people of size will have no difficulty going through turnstiles, some may wish to bypass them. According to Services for Guests with Disabilities, tall people will be fine on most rides.

However those who are close to 7 feet or taller will have problems with some rides. People of short stature will find many rides with height restrictions. The issue will be about whether or not you will fit within the various types of restraint systems. For example those who carry their weight in the chest area may have a problem with the over the shoulder harness restraint systems found on some rides. A Disney representative at Services for Guests with Disabilities shared that rides with lap bars tend to be less of a problem for people of size then the other restraint systems.

Some ride boarding areas are on moving walkways, and some of these can be stopped or slowed. Some attractions have sample ride cars that you can test out. Some of these are in private locations that a cast member can take you to, and some are in full view of other guests. A lap bar is usually a metal bar that you either pull down over your lap or it automatically comes down itself.

There may be more than one guest in a shared seat, and bars will stop when they encounter the larger guest. Feel free to request that you either ride alone, either in front of or behind those in your party.

For rides with lap bars that come down automatically, make sure to keep your legs down with your feet flat on the floor. If that's what you need, be sure to ask for one. Examples: Test Track, Space Mountain, Astro Orbiter On these attractions, you must step down into the vehicle and then lower yourself into the seat.

At the end of the ride, you must then raise yourself out of the seat and step up to get out of the vehicle and onto the unloading platform. One great strategy is, instead of trying to get out of the vehicle in one motion, first boost yourself to the back of the seat. Take a deep breath and from there it is much easier to step up onto the platform. Also, don't hesitate to use the seat as a step when you get in and get out of the ride vehicle. Using this "step" strategy really makes entering and exiting the vehicle much easier.

Turnstiles Although most of the turnstiles have been removed at Walt Disney World, you will still encounter a few of them in The Magic Kingdom. Take a look as you approach the attraction. The gate should be right there next to the regular turnstile entrance. There is no reason not to request to use it. All Walt Disney World restaurants can provide you with a chair without arms.

If you need one, just ask. Don't suffer through a meal squished into a chair that is too small when there is probably an armless chair as close as the next table. Rest Rooms Most At Large guests should be able to use a regular stall in the Walt Disney World rest rooms, but if you have any questions at all, just use the handicap stall. All rest rooms have at least one. Asking for Help All Cast Members are there to help you. You should never have a problem when courteously asking for help or some sort of special accommodation.

If the Cast Member can't help you, politely ask to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor will either help you or direct you to a place or person where your needs can be met. Transportation All transportation options at Walt Disney World, buses, monorails, and watercrafts, can accommodate guests of all sizes with no problems.

All of the comments that follow indicate one problem or another. We don't mean this to be negative or to scare you. There were just as many people who wrote us to say that they could ride everything without a problem. Listed below, however, are a few of the attractions that were a bit uncomfortable for some of our readers. The front row of Test Track and Rock n Rollercoaste r have far more leg room than the back. If you're tall, you need to be especially aware during the Dinosaur ride. I have huge bruises on my knee to prove it.

I found Expedition Everest almost impossible. I had to ride alone and sit sideways which made the safety bar very uncomfortable.

Haunted Mansion was a bit uncomfortable; had to sit at an angle and then stoop over a bit, but not completely impossible because it is not a fast ride and is not jerky. Hope this helps, and hope you have a great time at Disneyland! He fit into all of the Disney World rides. He was even able to squeeze into the little test track. Disney rides are very accommodating for larger people. We had a lot of trouble at Dollywood near Gatlinburg, TN.

There was only a couple coasters my husband could ride. I could ride a few more, but was still unable to latch the bar several times. Does anybody know if Legoland, Florida will accommodate larger people? Apr 14, Any similiar info for Disneyland? Thanks for the info…Great site!!! For the most part the same thing applies. You should be good on all the rides.

If you have any mobility problems Space Mountain might be a problem, but overall you should be good. Much better than those other theme parks. My weight is pretty much evenly distributed. I have heard that some bigger people might have trouble on this ride too? I do know it can be a bit difficult to buckle the seat belts if you have wide hips, but that would be the only issue.

Apr 08, To big for rides by: Anonymous nickle My dream of going to Disneyland is coming true. You should be OK on most rides. Make sure to look out for signs warning you about body size restrictions these rides are not for big folks other than that I still had a good time. Had really no issues at Magic Kingdom. Any rides I might have a problem going on? Thanks and very helpful site. The only ride you might have problems with it Flight of Passage. Some people have trouble with the ride vehicle.

Mar 21, Tall Pooh. The only ride I can say that I had a problem with was Snow Whites roller coaster. I was very uncomfortable. All the others from Mission Space to Rocking Roller coaster are a blast. My advice is give it a try and have fun. Has anyone had a problem on mission: space? Mission Space is not a problem. The restraint is an over the shoulder collar. She rode, I did not. We have ridden every other ride in the parks without a problem. Mar 14, Disney by: Anonymous Does this post apply to Disneyland as well?

The only other ride other than Seven Dwarfs and you could probably ride that one it just might be uncomfortable you might have problems with is Flight of Passage. Mar 05, Ms. Piglet and Mr. Work him in gently, but Disney is not like other theme parks. It is very Pooh and Piglet friendly for the most part. Most of the roller coasters are fine too except for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train which is just uncomfortable for everyone.

Pooh Bear is going to be pleasantly surprised. I have a big belly, big thighs, big chest and big arms. Will I be able to fit? A lap bar tight on my big belly will not even touch her, but I really want to get on these rides. You may have a problem if most of your weight is carried around your lower mid section and if your calves are very, very large. When there is a lot of weight and circumference in the abdomen and lower back, they might not be able to push the restraint closed.

My advice to any Pooh-sized folks who wish to give it a try is to lean forward, hard as you can when you step over the seat to straddle it. And push your legs up forward as well, snug up against the brace. Suck in your gut! Any big and tall people have personal experience to share??? Feb 18, Knee replacement by: Anonymous Is this the only ride that maybe a difficult one or are there others that you may think would be a challenge with a knee replacement? Some of the boat rides can be tricky, but not as bad.

Space Mountain is the worst by far. Feb 18, Space Mountain by: Anonymous I had a knee replacement and I am worried about getting out of space mountain. Any help with this? My 11 year old son will be with me and could may help me a little to get our but not to sure how much. Anyone have trouble getting out of space mountain or any of the other rides. I know a little about knee replacements. I have 2 and Mrs.

Mom has 1. Space Mountain can be difficult for anyone with mobility problems. Feb 17, How to really enjoy the parks and all they have to offer!

Most of my weight is in my rear and stomach. I have long legs and a shorter torso. I have a knee that can really bother me and do not have a ton of upperbody or leg strength. While the size of rides are most accommodating, getting on and off can be a challenge. For example,if you can sit on your floor at home and get up without alot of trouble you will be able to get off of Space Mountain.

Mine Train is an easy on and off. It depends on how far down the ride sits on the tracks so pay attention to that. Some rides have long hikes just to get to them and may be on an incline; step aside and let others go if you need to.

Plan for breaks to get off of your feet; drink plenty of water. Watch your sodium intake so you are not swelling up- just makes walking harder. Ask for a pass that allows you to come back at a certain time instead of having to wait in line. Break in very comfortable shoes before leaving home. Plan your day so you are not going back and forth: explore one area and move on. You are there to enjoy your time so do that above all. Feb 10, Flight of Avatar by: Anonymous You may have problems on flight of avatar.

Ask before you wait in line for 3 hours. On the plus side, the rest of my family got a fast pass to ride it again right after they got off the first time. It was the only ride I had a problem with. Have a great vacation! Jan 31, Pooh kings by: Anonymous Omg thank you for this. We are traveling to Disney in April and my husband and his friend are both linemen on a semi pro football team.

Yes, 5ft 11 and 6ft 1 Thighs hips gut and muscle. Jan 29, Thank you! We are starting a walking exercise plan now and hope to drop some pounds before then, but this puts me at ease! I am so relieved to read all of these comments! We are not big thrill ride people, even our 15 year old son is not, but I wanted to make sure we can do some of these wonderful attractions at least!

Thank you again! What a relief to find a place where someone can be honest about themselves without apology. Yes, I know I am unhealthy and need to treat my body better but I also earned this trip to WDW by working my butt off not literally of course. Jan 21, Where you sit! They should have known better. Sooooo be careful where you sit! Most of the rides where you share a lap bar restraint are mild like The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and some have none at all Pirates of the Caribbean.

Other shared restraints are more like seatbelts Dumbo the Flying Elephant so they conform to your specific size and shape. Jan 19, Relieved! We visit Silver Dollar City pretty regularly and I recently had to endure the walk of shame there.

Any advice? I got on all the rides we had fast passes for lol meaning the lines were too long of a wait for my son. Here is a list of parks and rides I went on. The only ride that was uncomfortable was seven dwarfs because of my thighs the bar really squeezed my knees together. Animal kingdom- African safari, expedition Everest, and dinosaur. No issues. Let me be clear. The rides at Disney are built to please everyone even little kids so they are not super thrill rides.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train might be uncomfortable but he should be able to get on. Jan 02, Thanks for this thread! The experience there made me anxious for my upcoming WDW trip. The 12 other people are all skinny or average. So happy we came across it! I am hoping someone can provide us some insight. We are traveling to WDW and we have a few pooh sized travelers with children.

Have you or anyone out there been on the frozen ride in epcot? It should be OK. They kept asking if I could move my feet up anymore, but my toes were already as far forward as i could get them. Nov 20, Rent a scooter and enjoy your vacation! My 28 year old son Suggested a scooter when we arrived after seeing how I struggled through the airports and the resort by the end of the first day and that was just from traveling.

He just happened to see a lady on a scooter the very first day at our resort who told my kids that getting a scooter was the only way to go. That was a godsend! She even suggested that we rent a scooter from a company outside of the park because it was much cheaper and I could use it at the resort and at the parks.

As for rides, the only ride that I had trouble with at Walt Disney World was the new Flight of the Avatar because you have to be able to slide forward completely and fit in so that the harness behind you can buckle.

I barely made it because of the size of my thighs and tummy. This trip really shown new light on my health and my size. Definitely motivation for me to thin down and try this trip again someday. The bottom line for me is, if you feel like you can handle the walking and you want to go on the rides, just try it. Who cares if you have to get off the ride or have to rent a scooter. This trip was too important and too expensive for me not to at least try.

I did the best I could with what I was able to do. Nov 19, Wide hips by: Anonymous Hi! How would I do on 7 dwarves mine train? Sitting on the other hand will be very uncomfortable.

Nov 09, Thank you from one Pooh to another! Thank you for putting my mind at ease. As far as the walking goes, I will just have to take my time and rest when necessary. Oct 27, Thank you! See you Thanksgiving week, Disneyworld! Has anyone had any issues with my same weight or around that weight? Aug 11, Avatar Ride by: Anonymous I live in California and go to Disneyland on a regular basis, and have no problem fitting on rides there.

But I have large in both height and weight. I am confident that I will fit on most rides at the parks but I have heard flight of passage is a bit fat-unfriendly. Should I expect problems? Aug 05, Pandora Rides — Pooh Friendly? I assume the boat ride will be fat friendly but the Flight of Passage looks problematic. I want to ride it so bad. Ambo, there is a test banshee outside of the ride you can get on to check. First time at MK here. DH and I are larger both in height and weight.

He carries in his belly. You think I will be ok? You will be fine. Disney is very, very Pooh sized people friendly. Go to Disney World!! Ride everything and enjoy your magical experience!! Jul 17, Extenders by: tara I have heard dif things about extenders, specifically for Kali river rapids. Are they available? Anyone used one recently? I fit on soarin in December but want to try Kali and tower of terror in sept.

Jul 03, I love this page by: Anonymous Not planning a trip to Disney world, not sure why I ended up here—but the helpful and fun advice on your page makes me feel much better about the human race and the internet. I carry most of my weight around my middle so I was terrified of being asked to leave the Banshee ride. I was especially sad because I can ride everything else at Disney comfortably. To my VERY pleasant surprise however, not only did I fit comfortably on the banshee ride there was no embarrassing double checking of my seat restraints as I had feared.

Hope that puts some minds at ease. Jun 06, Avatar by: Kimberly Lil Chunk. My mother is more of your height and weight and she was just fine to ride. There is a test seat there to try before getting on also. Good luck and enjoy my children told me it was great. He had to push the back and leg restraints for them to click, but it was not uncomfortable at all and was well worth the wait in my opinion! We were at Animal Kingdom at am the morning Pandora opened. I can tell you that my oldest daughter and I were asked to leave ride because the back brace would only click twice.

We were told that they could not be locked and that we would need to leave the ride. I have been able to ride every other ride at Disney. Some were a little snug, but I have always been able to enjoy the rides.

We have some time, but she is super excited about the new Avatar attraction. Any first hand experiences?? May 09, Seat Belts? But I also avoided rides I thought I would have trouble.

Otherwise I only had to do the walk of shame on one, but the employees helping me off thought I was participating in the parent-share ride. There were a couple of the rides that did require seat belt extenders provided by the park.

Do any of the rides at Disney have seat belts and did anyone need extenders? Did they even have them if needed? And thank you so much for this commentary! There are quite a few rides that require seat belts. Mine Cart was painfully tight it was not worth the 2 hour wait and the 2 bruises on my legs, but I rode without embarrassment.

I can safely say.. The flight there however was a different story lol. May 04, I can breathe.. Thank you all for your help!! Apr 30, Another trip update! This is Jake. I commented on this page about a year ago with my experience as a Pooh-sized person at Disney. Well, I was just at the Magic Kingdom last week, and I weighed about 40 pounds more than I did last year the struggle is real. As you can imagine, I was a bit nervous because I remembered not having much room to spare on some rides.

This trip reaffirmed my love of Disney yet again! I did not have problems fitting into any rides at all! Even at Space Mountain, I fit comfortably in the ride vehicle. I did not ride the new mine train because, again, the lines were extremely long. But all in all, it was a great trip! Once again, my only real problem occurred at the Carousel of Progress.

I fit into the seats just fine, but I came extremely close to getting stuck in the turnstiles again. I noticed they have a handicapped entrance right next to the turnstile. From now on, I will use that. I also visited both parks of Universal Studios this time.

In case anyone is wondering, those parks are definitely NOT fat-friendly. Go to Disney without fear! He is unable to ride due to inability to bend his knees enough while squeezed together to fit under the lap bar. It would be fine with a single bar for the car like in Thunder Mountain Railroad. He is able to ride every other ride in all the parks, except this one.

I was nervous to try the Mine Ride, as there were no definitive answers as to who can ride. I was able to ride the Mine Ride and am so glad I did. It is an amazing new addition to Disney. It was a bit restrictive, but I was not in any discomfort or pain. Please just enjoy yourself, it was super fun!

Embarrassed in front of all, I did the walk of shame. I worry about the RnR coaster though not a hanging coaster for the same reason: the shoulder harness due to the inversions.

I have not heard any reports of anyone having problems with the shoulder harness not locking. He is even dressing with a nod to pooh with ears and all for our day at MK. Kiddo will dress Tiggerish and me with pink and Piglet ears. I have a 58 inch waist. The tightest fit was Seven Dwarves Mine Train because of how the harness squeezes the sides of your knees. Jan 26, Help, please! They come down until they hit resistance. The Space Mountain T-bar is the same way.

It comes down until it meets your stomach. Getting into Space Mountain is my biggest struggle. He is a football player so he is pretty broad across the chest and pretty muscular thighs.

Can any anyone comment if he will have trouble riding any rides? If so, which ones? Just wondering if anyone out there is this sized and what their experiences have been. Thanks for any help you can give me! He should be fine. Oct 30, Quit worrying and have fun! We rode almost everything but the bigger roller coasters and had no real issues. Seven dwarves was a tight fit because it squeezes your legs together but it was totally worth it. Quit worrying and just have fun planning and doing everything.

Sep 07, Big dude wanting to have fun by: Dave Hope this is alright, but we are actually going to disneyland next month. Hover around Does anyone have any experience at disneyland for someone my size?

Thanks for whatever information you can provide! I still have three months I plan to work hard to better myself and lose some weight but I will still be pooh sized in three months even if I starve myself til then. All of these comments have helped to ease my mind concerning my Pooh size on the rides, but I still have one major concern. It will be OK. Disney really has done a great job of engineering them to fit just about everyone.

I did the Disney College Program in and before I had went, I researched like crazy because I was worried about rides. Everything I rode, I fit on!

There were only a few problems, the biggest being Space Mountain. Getting the front seat was a life saver, I think, and the bar easily went down.
